Price of several books from the price of one

Paper I Part A Q1: Price of several books from the price of one

Answer: Rs 210

💡 What it's asking: Every book costs the same, so the total is just the price of one book repeated 5 times.

  1. 1Write the price of one book: Rs 42.
  2. 2Multiply by the number of books: 42 × 5.
  3. 3Break it up: 40 × 5 = 200 and 2 × 5 = 10.
  4. 4Add: 200 + 10 = Rs 210.

✅ 5 books at about Rs 40 each is about Rs 200, so Rs 210 is sensible.

Answer: 3200 m

💡 What it's asking: A kilometre is a long distance made of 1000 metres, so we multiply by 1000.

  1. 1Remember: 1 km = 1000 m.
  2. 2Multiply: 3.2 × 1000.
  3. 3Multiplying by 1000 moves the decimal point 3 places to the right: 3.2 → 3200.
  4. 4Answer: 3200 m.

✅ Metres are smaller than kilometres, so the number must get bigger; 3200 is bigger than 3.2.
