VAT (Value Added Tax) is the extra amount added on top of the price. We find how much tax was added, then write it as a percentage of the price before tax.
- Tax added = price paid − price without tax = 5400 − 4500 = Rs. 900.
- VAT is always worked out on the price without tax, so compare 900 with 4500.
- Rate = 900/4500 × 100 = 20%.

The angle 6x is an exterior angle of the triangle. An exterior angle equals the two inside angles opposite it, so we first find the missing inside angle at B.
- At B the angles on a straight line add to 180°, so the inside angle at B = 180° − 140° = 40°.
- The exterior angle at C equals the sum of the two opposite inside angles: 6x = 4x + 40.
- Take 4x from both sides: 2x = 40.
- Divide by 2: x = 20.
